Suppose someone sent you a PowerPoint presentation that you'll be working on with your teammates. You can save it to a cloud location, such as OneDrive for Business, and then access it later using a variety of devices. Watch the video to see how this works on an iPad, and scroll down to see how to perform this task across a variety of devices.

The following procedure describes how to perform this task using PowerPoint for iPad. However, you can use another device as well. See Specific "how to" instructions for your device.

To edit a presentation using PowerPoint for iPad

  1. Begin with your presentation open for editing in PowerPoint for iPad. If you want to use our example presentation, download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723572, and then open it in PowerPoint for iPad.

  2. To add a text box to a slide, on the Insert tab, choose Text Box.

  3. To edit text, double-tap a text box, choose Edit Text, and then type your text.

  4. To add a slide, on the Insert tab, choose New Slide, and then choose a slide layout.

  5. To add notes to a slide, in the lower right corner, tap Notes. In the notes box, double-tap, and then type your text.

  6. To change the theme for your slide deck, on the Design tab, choose Themes, and then choose a new theme.

  7. Save and close the file.

 

Specific "how to" instructions for your device

Windows PC or tablet

To edit a presentation using PowerPoint 2016 on a Windows computer or tablet

  1. Begin with your presentation open for editing in PowerPoint. If you want to use our example presentation, download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723572, and then open it in PowerPoint on your computer.

  2. To add a text box to a slide, on the Insert tab, choose Text Box. Then, click (or tap) and drag to create a text box. Type your text.

  3. To edit text, click (or tap) a text box, and then type your text.

  4. To add a slide, on the Insert tab, on the New Slide menu, choose a slide layout.

  5. To add notes to a slide, click (or tap) Notes, and then type your text.

  6. To change the theme for your slide deck, on the Design tab, in the Themes menu, choose a new theme.

  7. Save and close the file.

Mac computer

To edit a presentation using PowerPoint 2016 for Mac

  2. To add a text box to a slide, on the Insert tab, choose Text Box.

To edit a presentation using PowerPoint on an iPad or iPhone

  2. To add a text box to a slide, on the Insert tab, choose Text Box.

  3. To edit text, double-tap a text box, choose Edit Text, and then type your text.

  4. To add a slide, on the Insert tab, choose New Slide, and then choose a slide layout.

  5. To add notes to a slide, in the lower right corner, tap Notes. In the notes box, double-tap, and then type your text.

  6. To change the theme for your slide deck, on the Design tab, choose Themes, and then choose a new theme.

  7. Save and close the file.

Windows Phone

NOTE: Currently, Windows Phone supports limited editing capabilities in PowerPoint. For example, you cannot add a slide, add or resize a text box, or change the theme of your presentation using PowerPoint on your Windows Phone. You can add notes and edit text on a slide. We recommend either using Office Online to edit your presentation using your Windows Phone, or choose a different device to edit your file.

To edit a presentation using PowerPoint on a Windows Phone

  1. Open the Office Hub on your Windows Phone.

  2. Under Recent, identify a PowerPoint presentation that you've recently worked on.

  3. Tap the presentation to open it.

  4. To add notes to a slide, hold your phone in portrait mode, and then tap the notes section below the slide. Type your notes, and then tap the checkmark.

  5. To edit text on a slide, do the following:

    1. Tap the ellipsis (...), and then tap Edit.

    2. Double-tap a text box on a slide, edit your text, and then tap the checkmark.

  6. When you're done editing your presentation, tap the Back button. If prompted to save your changes, tapYes.

Office Online (browser on all devices)

To edit a presentation using PowerPoint Online

  1. Begin with your presentation open in your browser on your device. If you want to use our example presentation, download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723572, save it to your OneDrive for Business library, and then open it in your browser window.

  2. Choose Edit Presentation > Edit in PowerPoint Online.

  3. To add a text box to a slide, on the Insert tab, choose Text Box. Then move and resize the box.

  4. To edit text, select a text box, and then type your text.

  5. To add a slide, on the Insert tab, choose New Slide, choose a slide layout, and then choose Add Slide.

  6. To add notes to a slide, in the lower right corner, choose Notes, and then type your text.

  7. To change the theme for your slide deck, on the Design tab, in the Themes menu, choose a new theme.

  8. When you're done editing, close the file.
