O365 Copy a chart from Excel to a Word document on a tablet

When you're on the go, and you have a lot of work to get done, having Office on your mobile devices can be handy. For example, you can copy a chart from an Excel workbook and paste it into a Word document using your tablet or smartphone. Watch the video to see how this works on an Android tablet, and scroll down to see how to perform this task across a variety of devices.

The following procedure describes how to perform this task on an Android tablet. However, you can use another device as well. See Specific "how to" instructions for your device.

IMPORTANT: Before you begin, make sure that you have an Excel spreadsheet that contains a chart open on your device. If you want to use our example file, you can download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723569, and then open it in Excel on your device.

To copy a chart from Excel and paste it into Word using an Android tablet

  1. Begin with a Word document open for editing. If you want to use our example document, you can download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723570, and then open it for editing in Word on your device.

  2. In your Word document, go to the location where you want to include a chart.

  3. Go to Excel on your tablet, and select the worksheet that contains the chart you want to use.

  4. Tap the chart, and on the context menu that appears, choose Copy.

  5. Return to your document open in Word.

  6. Tap where you want to put the chart, and on the context menu that appears, choose Paste.

 

Specific "how to" instructions for your device

Windows PC or tablet

NOTE: Before you begin, make sure that you have an Excel spreadsheet that contains a chart open on your computer or tablet. If you want to use our example file, you can download it here:http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723569, and then open it in Excel.

To copy a chart from Excel and paste it into Word using a Windows computer or tablet

  1. Begin with a Word document open for editing. If you want to use our example document, you can download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723570, and then open it for editing in Word on your computer or tablet.

  2. In your Word document, go to the location where you want to include a chart.

  3. Go to Excel on your computer or tablet, and select the worksheet that contains the chart you want to use.

  4. Right-click (or tap and hold) the chart, and on the context menu that appears, choose Copy.

  5. Return to your document open in Word.

  6. Right-click (or tap and hold) where you want to put the chart, and on the context menu that appears, choose Paste.

Mac computer

NOTE: Before you begin, make sure that you have an Excel spreadsheet that contains a chart open on your computer. If you want to use our example file, you can download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723569, and then open it in Excel.

To copy a chart from Excel and paste it into Word using a Mac

  1. Begin with a Word document open for editing. If you want to use our example document, you can download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723570, and then open it for editing in Word on your device.

  2. In your Word document, go to the location where you want to include a chart.

  3. Go to Excel on your computer, and select the worksheet that contains the chart you want to use.

  4. Hold down CONTROL, click the chart, and on the context menu that appears, choose Copy.

  5. Return to your document open in Word.

  6. Hold down CONTROL, click where you want to put the chart, and on the context menu that appears, choose Paste.

Android phone or tablet

NOTE: Before you begin, make sure that you have an Excel spreadsheet that contains a chart open on your device. If you want to use our example file, you can download it here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=723569, and then open it in Excel on your phone or tablet.

To copy a chart from Excel and paste it into Word using an Android phone or tablet

  2. In your Word document, go to the location where you want to include a chart.

To copy a chart from Excel and paste it into Word using an iPad or iPhone

  2. In your Word document, go to the location where you want to include a chart.

  3. Go to Excel on your device, and select the worksheet that contains the chart you want to use.

  4. Tap the chart, and on the context menu that appears, choose Copy.

  5. Return to your document open in Word.

  6. Tap where you want to put the chart, and on the context menu that appears, choose Paste.

Office Online (browser on all devices)

Currently, you cannot copy a chart from an Excel workbook and paste it into a Word document using Word Online. To perform this task, use a device, such as a computer, tablet, or smartphone that has Office installed on it. For more information, see Copy and paste in Office Online
